New Assistant Coaches Ready to Contribute to Pride Basketball Teams
WESTON, Mass. - With the 2021-22 basketball season fast approaching, the Regis College men's and women's basketball teams have each brought in an assistant coach to help guide the respective programs, as Leah Spencer has joined the women's basketball coaching staff and Zach Stevens is now part of the men's basketball coaching staff.
Spencer was a four-year letterwinner at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt., starting 66 of the 81 games she appeared in. She averaged 11.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game during her collegiate career. She earned Third Team All-Northeast 10 honors as a junior in 2016-17 after averaging 15.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. In the final game of her senior season, she scored 23 points at Merrimack as she reached double figures in scoring in eight of the last 10 games of the 2017-18 campaign.
Spencer received her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Saint Michael's College in 2018 and is pursuing her master's degree in strategic sports communication at Regis.
Stevens previously spent four years as an assistant coach at Plymouth State University, helping with recruiting, practice plans, game plans, in-game coaching, and player development. He also assisted in monitoring player's academic performance, oversaw film exchange, scouted opponents, coordinated team travel, and distributed equipment. Over the years, Stevens has worked numerous camps, including the Next Level Basketball Academy/New Hampshire Storm AAU Program every year since 2013. In 2018, he helped run the Kyrie Irving/Jayson Tatum Pro Camp.
Stevens played at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, N.H., from 2011 to 2013 before transferring to Plymouth State to complete his collegiate career, playing for the Panthers from 2013 to 2016. As a senior at Plymouth State, he received the Phil Rowe Hardest Worker in Practice Award. Stevens received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Plymouth State in 2016.
