WESTON, Mass. – Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) put up a double double by halftime, finishing with 26 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Regis (Mass.) women's basketball team to a 77-56 win over Lasell and remain perfect in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Tuesday night at Higgins Court.
Stone's monster performance was complimented by another double double as Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) went for 16 points and 10 rebounds. Maura Russell (Braintree, Mass.) added 17 points on 5-8 shooting from beyond the arc.
Morgan Church (New London, N.H.) finished with a game-high 27 points and kept the pesky Lasers in the game for nearly three quarters. Taylor Hughney (Redding, Calif.) scored nine points with Becca Fenton (East Hartford, Conn.) handing out a game-high seven assists.
The Pride (5-6, 3-0 GNAC) were firing on all cylinders at the start, opening with a 13-2 run highlighted by back-to-back three pointers from Russell. After a timeout though Lasell (2-8, 0-3 GNAC) would settle in and shave the lead to 13-10 after Church three-pointer. Regis would push the lead back up to double digits by the end of the quarter after D'Angelo hoisted a deep three that banked in at the buzzer.
The Pride maintained a double digit advantage throughout the second quarter and entered halftime up 36-22. Lasell hung around in the quarter with three pointers from Church and Hughey to keep the Pride lead at 11 points with 8:10 to play. Regis would clamped down defensively and hold the Lasers to just four points the rest of the period.
Lasell outscored the Pride in the third period but the momentum was stunted by a late burst to end the quarter. Dana Ross (East Haven, Conn.) connected on a jumper to cut the lead to 51-43 with 2:22 remaining, but a layup by Stone and Russell's steal and breakaway layup as time expired pushed the lead back up to 14 points.
Regis next visits Norwich this Thursday, Jan. 11 for a 5:00 p.m. tip with the Cadets. Next up for Lasell is Johnson & Wales (RI) this Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1:00 p.m.
