WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team won its third consecutive match Tuesday afternoon, downing Salve Regina University 7-2 in non-conference action at the Regis Tennis Center.
With the win, the Pride improves to 3-1 on the season, while the Seahawks drop to 0-1 after their season-opening loss.
The Pride opened up the afternoon by taking two of three matches in doubles play to take a quick 2-1 lead. Sophomores Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) and Kyle Dugat (Houston, Texas) got the day started for the Pride, defeating Salve's Trevor Jones (South Hamilton, Mass.) and William Chasse (Greenville, R.I.) 8-2 at No. 3 doubles to put the Pride ahead 1-0. Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) and Johnny Pallotta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) followed up minutes later at No. 1 doubles, defeating Seahawks Kevin Brocks (Albany, N.Y.) and D.J. Bisaillon (Watertown, Conn.) 8-1.
Salve got one back at No. 2 doubles, where Will Masse (Wyoming, R.I.) and Aaron White (Falmouth, Mass.) came back from down 5-4 to beat freshmen Tim Miller (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Owen Pelissier (Hingham, Mass.) 8-5.
Regis continued to roll once singles play began, starting with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win from Bebarta at No. 4 singles. A 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles from senior captain Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) set the table for junior Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) to claim the match-clinching 6-0, 6-2 win over Brocks at No. 2. Freshman Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) would go on to pick up his first collegiate win at No. 5, while junior Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.) also won for the Pride.
Salve's lone singles victory came on Court 6, where White got the best of Regis freshman Matt DaRosso (Yonkers, N.Y.) 6-2, 7-5.
Next up for the Pride, they will take on Wentworth to open up on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The Seahawks will be off until October 8, when they host UMass Boston in their home opener.
